INDICATE Pilot in Spain recognised for innovation at Castilla y León Sustainability Awards
The INDICATE pilot in Spain has been recognised in the innovation category at the 10th Sustainable Construction Awards of Castilla y León, highlighting its contribution to advancing carbon assessment in the building sector. The awards, organised by the Junta de Castilla y León in partnership with the Construction Institute of Castilla y León, celebrate excellence in sustainable construction across the region.
The ceremony took place on 9 May 2025 in Valladolid, where the project was commended for its innovative methodology, strong European dimension and collaborative approach.
Delivered by Green Building Council España (GBCE) and the University of Seville, with support from the Laudes Foundation, the project is working to establish a baseline of life cycle carbon emissions for residential buildings currently being constructed in Spain. Parallel pilots have also been carried out in Ireland and the Czech Republic, each contributing to a broader European understanding of whole life carbon (WLC) in buildings.
In Spain, the project has developed a tailored methodology combining both real and synthetic case studies. By identifying the carbon footprint of buildings at the point of construction, including materials, the project provides a critical starting point for the sector’s transition to decarbonisation.
