INDICATE LIFE launches in Italy with national stakeholder event

The INDICATE LIFE project has officially launched in Milan, Italy with a full-day event hosted by Green Building Council Italia (GBC Italia) on the 19 November 2024. The launch brought together policymakers and national stakeholders to address a critical challenge: improving whole life carbon (WLC) data collection and assessment.

The event focused on identifying the policy frameworks and technical tools necessary to improve WLC data collection and assessment within the Italian built environment.

Stakeholder roundtable explores national WLC methodology

During the event, a dedicated roundtable session explored INIDCATE LIFE’s core objectives and Italy’s approach to implementing WLC data. The Italian project partners presented the proposed national WLC methodology, emphasising the crucial role that industry stakeholders aim to play in shaping a low-carbon built environment.

The event was organised in collaboration with the Building Life 2 initiative and the discussions aligned with Green Building Council Italia’s broader decarbonisation goals outlined in their 2022 Roadmap for Decarbonisation and Sustainable Transformation in the Construction Industry.

Design sprint refines implementation strategy

In the afternoon, Italian INDICATE LIFE partners joined the project team for a design sprint focused on operational planning. This working session allowed partners to refine the national team’s strategy for the duration of the INDICATE LIFE project.

INDICATE LIFE in Italy

The INDICATE LIFE project aims to drive WLC data and building-level adoption in Italy, aligning industry and policy actions towards decarbonisation. At the core is the creation of national WLC benchmarks, specifically for residential and non-residential buildings, and a shared methodology in joint compliance with both EU standards (Level(s) and EPBD) and the Italian regulatory framework (Green Public Procurement). To achieve this, a representative sample of building LCA case studies across regions will be analysed.

The Italian national team includes GBC Italia, Università degli Studi di Bergamo, ENEA, Politecnico di Milano, Harpaceas, and Politecnico di Torino
