INDICATE LIFE reaches 1,300 professionals at Croatian Sustainable Building Conference
Attendees gathered at the INDICATE LIFE launch in Croatia in November 2024.
The INDICATE LIFE project made its Croatian debut at Green Building Council Croatia’s seventh Sustainable Building Conference, where over 1,300 professionals gathered to discuss whole life carbon (WLC) and sustainable building practices. The conference setting provided an ideal platform for introducing the project to a broad cross-section of Croatia's built environment sector.
By launching at this established national event, INDICATE LIFE was presented to key industry professionals, policymakers, and technical experts who will be essential to the project's success in Croatia.
National life cycle assessment data accelerator takes centre stage
A key highlight of the launch was Franciska Erdelj's (Green Building Council Croatia) presentation on the national LCA data accelerator. The session explored the challenges of measuring and reducing emissions across the entire lifecycle of buildings, from material extraction and construction through to operation and eventual demolition.
The presentation introduced industry professionals to the core issues INDICATE LIFE aims to address, including the implementation of the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). These EU measures require member states to align with the latest sustainability standards, making robust WLC data infrastructure increasingly critical for regulatory compliance.
Erdelj also outlined the project's objectives and emphasised the importance of collaboration among national policymakers, industry experts, and stakeholders. The focus on WLC data aims to enable evidence-based policy development that can drive meaningful change in Croatia's built environment.
Croatia’s plan for INDICATE LIFE
The Croatian national team has evaluated their current tools and compared them to global best practices to identify ways to improve accuracy and impact. This aims to result in reliable benchmarks, cutting-edge solutions, and actionable insights to drive sustainability in the construction sector. LCA findings will shape building codes, inspire policies, and empower professionals.
The INDICATE LIFE Croatian team includes Green Building Council Croatia, the University of Zagreb Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar.
